Can't find long shear fasteners

Can't find long shear fasteners

Can't find long shear fasteners

(OP)
I'm in need of long (1 3/8" grip) 1/4" dia. shear fasteners (125+ ksi).  There are plenty of 1/4" shear fasteners that fit the bill, but we can't find them in the -22 length.  Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Can't find long shear fasteners

lewbloms...

Some clarification on Your part is needed.

Head Style: Flush or protruding? Tension or shear rated? Flush-smooth, flush with recess-drive, hex, 2X-Hex, etc?

Bolts, Lock-bolts, Hi-Loks [or HL Style]

If threaded: short medium or long thread?

125-KSI FTu or FSu?

Steel, CRES, PH-CRES, A286, Inconel, Titanium, etc?

Temperature range [-65F] to: 250F, 300F, 450F, 600F, 800F, 1200F, etc?

Acceptable finish types such as bare [passivated], cadmium, SFL, Aluminum-Coating, IVD, Ti-Anodized, etc [to match temperature-range and material dissimilarities]?

Wil,

Frankly, at this point, I'll take most anything with an FSu of 125 ksi or better.  First priority is some type of protruding head.  I can use 100 degree flush head also, but must have protruding head.  These fasteners will never see temperatures other than ambient.  Preferred material is steel, but I'm not picky.  We've always used cad plated fasteners in this application.  I won't say cost isn't important, but it is of lesser concern.

lew, I'm confused. Is it a flush head or a protruding head fastener that you need?

Wes,

Sorry for the confusion.  I want both protruding and flush head, but can do without the flush head if I have to.  Ideally I'd like both.

Your problem may be less of a technical one, and more of supply...  What you ask is not hard to find.
NAS6604-*, NAS6204-*, etc.

Try M+M Aerospace, Aviall, API, other typical aircraft fastener suppliers...

lewblooms...

OK You have a bit of a problem here. 125-KSI FSu is hard to attain... except using VHS alloys [NAS parts wont cut-it].

125-KSI FSu is possible with the following alloys [special processing is usually required]...

Inconel 718
PH13-8Mo
MP35N
MP159
4340M steel
H11 steel [gag...not recommended due to low SCC resistance]

MS21296 [260-KSI-FTU] or MS21297 [220-KSI-FTU] steel bolts are available.

Inconel 718 and Ph13-8Mo @125-KSI FSu are available as Hi-Lok  Pins [see Hi-Shear/Hi-Lok website: http://hi-shear.com/fastener_hl_stds.htm ]

Hi-Shear also supplies Hi-Torque-recess Bolts [flush and protruding] in PH13-8Mo at 220-KSI FTu/125-KSI FSu.

SPS supplies Bolts in MP35N & MP159 Alloys [SAE AS7468 & AS7475] at 220-KSI FTu/125-KSI FSu.

Inconel 718 Tension Bolts come as MS14181 or Boeing BACB30US

Boeing also has Protruding shear-head Inconel 718 BACB30UU bolts at 125-KSI FSU [shear-head short thread].

RE: Can't find long shear fasteners

maybe ... i assumed the 125ksi referred to the bolt tension stress (isn't that the usual way of spec'ing a bolt) ... and it looks like other posters above thought the same ...

maybe the OP could clarify this point ... 125ksi is required for tension or for shear ?
