I am planning to have a computer built specifically to run UG at home. Would appreciate any suggestions as to minimum requirements, pitfalls, do's and don'ts, etc.

Thanks

RE: UG minimum requirements

I'd certainly select one of UGS's certified models.

RE: UG minimum requirements

If the machine is being used full time for CAD work. then I would go with a pre-configured certified workstation.
Options on a certified machine would be a higher memory graphics card and more computer memory.

If the machine will only be used on part time for CAd work, then you can look at the components in a certified machine and configure one like that.

Just remember that if you have any problems at all with NX on a non-certified machine, GTAC can refuse all calls for help. They usually won't if they can reproduce the error on a certified machine, but they can.

Thanks for the input, guys. I am still a little uncertain what to do.
Do I have to buy a "certified machine" directly from UGS?

I will be using a "portable license" from my employer to work at home.

RE: UG minimum requirements

Ok...

I have the following at home:
P4 3.4GHz, 2 GB RAM, and a GEFORCE 6800GT.

no need for quadro, and I've worked on assmblies with thousends of parts.
the importent things are:
mid-high level CPU, at least 1 GB RAM, preferably 2, and a GOOD opengl graphics card.

quadro is not necessary, but if you are going on gaming cards, then the high-end nvidia cards are better.
if you can get your hands on a geforce 6800GT or ultra, they can be software-modded to quadro.

RE: UG minimum requirements

UGS does not sell hardware. Their website lists various machines from Dell, IBM, HP, Sun and others that are certified.

For sporadic work at home, I have a Dell XPS with 2GB memory and an ATI Radeon 9800Pro that works fine for UG and Pro/E.

Hello,

We benchmark machines and more recently the HP 64 bit range. I'd suggest the HP 9400, either AMD (Cheaper and faster) or intel duo. Good value for money. Always go for a UGS supported machine building your own isnt good in the long run. Also the ATI 7300 is a rather cool card!

RE: UG minimum requirements

A revised note:

got the dell 390 workstation today at work... it's certified and a real killer :)
