Solidworks on a Mac

Solidworks on a Mac

Solidworks on a Mac

Has anyone tried to run solidworks or other CAD programs on a new macbook that can run windows? Does it work? Does it work well?

RE: Solidworks on a Mac

Dear Mark;

My neighbour is an IT manager for a company that has Solidworks seats. He is crazy about Apple products but tells me the process of running Windows software on a MAC is problematic.

The conversion process uses an interpreter which really slows down performance. Programs like Word and Excel work OK but Solidworks and Autocad run very slowly.

You would certainly want to try before you buy

AS far as I know Ashlar Vellum is the only 3D Modeller available for the MAC. The thought of Solidoworks 2007 on a big Apple cinema display, it almost makes me drool....

Try a search - this question has been asked before a few times.

Hmm. Interesting. Thanks

RE: Solidworks on a Mac

This was before my time here but the engineering department manager was a MAC type of guy and had everyone on MACs using Vellum & ACAD.  We still have copies of Vellum hanging around but only a few hold outs use MACs at our company.  IMHO, MACs are targeted at a very specific market and will never overrun PCs

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.

Use iCad Dude!

RE: Solidworks on a Mac

Macs certainly seem to dominate in academic circles and in movies.

Reason trumps all.  And awe transcends reason.

RE: Solidworks on a Mac

I remember back in the mid 90s when Pro/E & SDRC were only ported to UNIX based machines.  So all the MEs had HP UNIX workstations for using CAD/CAE applications and MACs for doing e-mail, reports and other support tasks.  It was a real PIA to upload some data points from Excel to be read into Pro/E.  I was all smiles when PCs gained power & popularity....one machine

RE: Solidworks on a Mac

Maybe the current versions of SolidWorks would run slow on Macbook, but maybe the older versions like SolidWorks 1998 plus might right ok?  Just a thought.  (not that SW 1998+ would be usually to anyone these days)
