ADDING WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE??

ADDING WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE??

ADDING WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE??

(OP)
CAN ANYBODY HELP?

HOW DO YOU ADD A CONFIGURATION SPECIFIC WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE? THERE ARE NO PARAMETERS TO DOUBLE CLICK ON TO GET IT TO GO INTO THE DESIGN TABLE. THANKS

RE: ADDING WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE??

There is a list in help of the additional parameters that can be put into the table.  I'm not sure if weight is one of them, since it would seem to be undesirable to assign an arbitrary weight rather than an accurate density.

RE: ADDING WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE??

The simplest way is to manually create two configs with the required variations, and then use the Auto-create option when creating the Design Table.

It should automatically capture the variations between configs, which in this case would be the $PRP@Weight parameter.

cheers

RE: ADDING WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE??

Hi, AndyGro:

Just a curiocity, why do you need to add "weight" properties into a design table?  Design table is mainly for inputs.  Are your configuration specific weight properties inputs to your design? Otherwise, you should consider using general tables.

RE: ADDING WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE??

As handleman and rgrayclamps point out, the weight information is usually obtained from the Material (and underlying Density) selected. It is data which should be derived from the model, not used as an input to it via a DT.

cheers

RE: ADDING WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE??

In sw2006 (and I assume 2007) there is a parameter to drive the mass of a part - $SW-MASS

RE: ADDING WEIGHT INTO A DESIGN TABLE??

Hi, engAlright:

I don't think that you can drive the mass of a part.  You only can assign mass to a part.

THE REASON WHY I WANTED TO PUT WEIGHT INTO THE DESIGN TABLE WAS BASICALLY BECAUSE I WANTED SOLID WORKS TO WORK OUT THE WEIGHTS OF SEVERAL HUNDERED ASSEMBLY CONFIGS TO ADD THEM INTO A SEPERATE EXCEL SHEET.
