Video card issue

Video card issue

Video card issue

(OP)
I need to get a different video card, my problem is I don't have a PCI express slot, most likely an AGP or PCI. I had settled on an nvidia fx560 but can't find anything that isn't PCI-e. Am I out of luck or can someone point me in a different direction short of a new mother board...

Thanks,

Dennis

RE: Video card issue

The fx500 is comprable to the fx560 and the 500 is an agp card.

RE: Video card issue

The 980 XGL is a good card.  I have the 750 on my home computer and it's fast enough for home use.  I paid $650 for it in 2003 but I've seen them on ebay for $100.00

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.

CBL,

That's where I was but those are PCI-e cards they won't work in my AGP.

Having a problem finding a FX 500 (discontinued), the one I found online at Compuvest didn't sound like it even came in a box.

That's what I get for letting my box builder find me a card that would work 3 years ago. I was told I might as well get a new box if I needed to go with PCI-e.

RE: Video card issue

I've got an FX-500 in my old machine.  I would think you could find one on e-Bay or something similar relatively inexpensively--particularly since lots of people are migrating to the new formats.

bluesman0007 ... scroll to the bottom of the page for some AGP8X cards.

cheers

RE: Video card issue

I've seen many of the 1000/3000/4000 series Quadros on ebay for a few hundred.

RE: Video card issue

THe round number cards (4000, 3000, 1000, 500 with the exception of the 1100) are usually the AGP cards the odd numbers cards like the 1400,1300, 530, 560,3500,4500 etc... are the PCI-E cards. I would think if you went to the Nvidia website they would tell you what cards are which or if you are at the purchase site it would be listed there.

There was a discussion here on PCI-E slots try running a search that might give you some insight on the slot itself... but IMO you are hosed.

RE: Video card issue

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I did order a new FX500 AGP online from what seemed like a reputable company. I probably paid a little more but it should take care of some of the issues I'm having with SW2007. For the kind of work we do I couldn't really justify spending a lot of money and it seems as though this will be a good fix. I don't think I'll get away from nvidia cards again since the Matrox let me down at work and my 3D Labs card has let me down at home. I hope this will continue to work for a couple more releases of SW. I hope next week to be able to remove the Matrox 650 from my signature.

Thanks again.

Hello all,

Just an update: Have installed nVidia FX500 and I should have done it two years ago. Nice smooth rotation, most if not all of my crash issues have disappeared. For an entry level card it's amazing. Now all I have to do is get one for home and I'll be set, at least for now.
