Painting specific area for illustration purpose

Painting specific area for illustration purpose

(OP)
Hello,
I'm modeling electrical components using pro/e 2000i^2, I want to illustrate the leads that are part of SMT components specifically.
what I'm trying to ask is how can I paint ,say a circle in gray that is found on a black surface. the circle diameter should be parameter driven (i.e the painted zone can be changed).
I tried decals with no success and I want to avoid using protrusion or creating surface.
I apologize for my English.
Asi.

RE: Painting specific area for illustration purpose

Have you tried to create an offset surface (say 0.0001mm away from the existing surface) & trim it to the circle, and colour that circle grey) - I don't have that version of pro/e, so I don't know whether this is possible.

creating an offset surface is one way to work it out but I want to avoid such solution. I want to know if I can draw a circle as a datum curve, cosmetic feature or a sketch that can be filled with a speciefic color.
thanks.

RE: Painting specific area for illustration purpose

Cosmetic sketches can be hatched.  You can change the color of the hatch and by making the spacing very small it will appear solid.  You control the color & spacing in drawing mode, not part or assembly.

I agree with dgallup.  His solution is simple and straightforward.

in addition you can project a curve on a surface and then hatch it.  This way you have no extra material (even a small surface) in your model.  You can also fill rather than hatch the curve to get a solid type of sketch.

Hi alphaguru,
can I do it in pro/e 2000i^2? or is it a feature of WF.
I know I can project a curve on a surface but I need to paint it in part&assembly mode can this be done?
Thank you all, this is a greate forum : )
