Converting to Autocad geomtry inacuracies

Converting to Autocad geomtry inacuracies

Converting to Autocad geomtry inacuracies

When I convert a Soliddraw file to a dwg file, my geometry is not matching the original file. If I measure a dimension, and this happens in dwg editor or in acad, I will get dimensions different from the originals. Also when using the converted drawing views as blocks, and then trying to locate those blocks using the existing geometry  I get errors as well. I am using version SW2007

Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a fix, or is this a issue with the settings?

RE: Converting to Autocad geomtry inacuracies

Are you changing the scale of any views within SolidWorks before exporting?  If you have views that differ with your master scale (sheet properties), this can happen--you'll normally get a warning to that effect when exporting to DWG or DXF formats (that one or more of the views do not match the scale of the rest of the sheet).

That's probably the first thing to check.

here are the settings I use

export options:

version r2004-2006
fonts: Autocad STANDARD only
line: Autocad standard Styles
scale output 1:1
base scale: sheet scale + 1:1/1:count=1

Enabled x
warn me if enabled x

end point merging enabled

export all splines as polly lines

export active sheet only

How far is the scale mis-matched? Is it Metric vs Imperial?

cheers

I am getting errors like .0005 to .0035 The other problem is that it is not consistent throughout the engineering departments. I am in the process of elimination right now. Some are using acad to open files some DWG editor. I have a feeling this problem is a ,"between the keyboards and the chair" issue. I have enlisted the help of a fellow employee with solid( pardon the pun) cad skills. We will revue our current methods and machine settings. We just started having this problem recently after going to SW version2007. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this as well

thank you all for your help!!!

RE: Converting to Autocad geomtry inacuracies

Are you measuring entity lengths or between points?

How do the measurements compare when the file is opened in DWGeditor?

cheers

RE: Converting to Autocad geomtry inacuracies

between points
no diiference witg dwg editor
however I opened the sketch of the solid model the drawing is of that dimension was corect and I checked it to 8 places just to be sure I was not having a issue with rounding. The dimension was correct. I then deleted it and redimensioned the exact same number. The conversion of that was correct

RE: Converting to Autocad geomtry inacuracies

I never convert from SolidWorks to ACAD for this reason. I will use one or the other for all drawings. (prefer SW)
