Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

(OP)
It's been a couple of years since I used the Micrologix software.  It is installed on the same laptop that was previously used.
1st I bring up RSlinx and config driver to DF1 com1.
It shows that it is runnning.  Then I go to RSwho, autobrouse , it says that node 0 found, node 1 not found,

Serial is connecting to Com1 and system says that it is working, but cannot connect to 1000.  Message that it can't find processor

    Need help!!!!! Please

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

You also have to match the baud rate and hardware or software error checking. Do you have a backup copy of the program? If you do, you can open that and see what the channel settings are, then configure the driver to match. You can also try the autoconnect feature.

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

(OP)
I've matched baud rate of serial port and driver,   tried to autoconfigue but tells me that baud and node could not be found, check cable and hardware.
The 1000 belongs to a mfg company (one of several)
they saved them from discarded machines. Program is not known, they are wanting to use them on another piece of equipment.  It apears that the controller has preprogramed timer or sequencer for output 0/0, when power is applied output 0/0 begans cycling. ?????  I wanted to clear this program to start new. RSlinx just doesn't seem to find the controller.

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

You must indicate in the DF1 driver configuration the device type SLCCH0/Panelview/Micrologix and error check mode CRC. Then try autoconfigure.

Another possibility is that the PLC is configured for DH485 protocol, in which case you must use the PIC/AIC driver.

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

(OP)
Tried the  DF1; SLCCHO/p../M.. CRC  Autoconfig failed

Tried PIC/AIC driver  19200, com1. station 00 after deleting DF1 driver  shows that PIC driver is stopped. cannot start.

If i go to RSWho shows that  Station 0 is brousing 31 nodes but doesn"t locate.....

I'm about ready to pull my hair out....

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

first shutdown rslinx and logix
go to task mgr make sure rsobserv.exe is not running if it is end it.
then go start>>run>>regedit>>
Hkey_local_mach>>software>>rockwellsoftware>>rslinx>>drivers and rightclick delete the ab_df1 and ab_pic drivers

if running win xp then go to device mgr>>ports>>com1 right click and uninstall.  reboot and reconfigure the pic driver

also are you using a usb2serial or not?

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

(OP)
I am using a Belkin USB serial adaptor. It is configured to Com1 and appears to be working fine. I have reinstalled it's driver. This is the same laptop and setup that I previously used approximately 2 years ago before I had an injury that put me out for a while.

Maybe the injury damaged my brain, because this one has me stumped, never had this much trouble before.
Question: does the plc retain the com port settings of the program?  No-matter what I do the communication between the PLC and laptop cannot be established. The program is sending packets but not receiving.
If I could just establish communications then I could erase the memory.  I believe there is a handheld unit that will connect and allow a complete erase. But I didn't want to spend that much money. The software cost was extensive. That's the problem with AB they charge to much every way you turn. They won't even talk to you if you don't pay for surport.
I did as you sugested, but for some reason the pic driver willl not run.

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

pic driver will not work with usb 2 serial converter.

is the cable a 1761-cbl-hmo2 from usb2ser>>plc?
suggest either computer with true serial port and configure the pic

or 1747-uic

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

yes com port setting for the plc are retained in the plc. and save in the offline file.

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

(OP)
Yes the cable is a standard 1761 cable from AB, and the Belkin is the unit that AB recommended when I ordered this computer without checking if it had a serial port.

Are you saying that if I use the DF1 driver that the serial adapter wil work but not if I use the PIC driver?
I didn't think that that mattered. Would the autoconfig DF1 driver change the original com setting in the PLC program? I thought that as long as the serial adapter and the driver were configured to same com port that all was fine>

After reading the link, It seems as though I need the 1784 PCMK card for my computer. But after checking about the cost of this card, I believe that I will be better off buying another laptop.  Or do you think that a regular PCM serial adapter will work with the 1761 cable, etc.

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

I'm not very familiar with the Micrologix PLC's - we use SLC5's - but I can highly recommend the 1747-UIC if it is compatible with your hardware. Price is about £100 in the UK. It plugs directly into the USB port and works without problems. The earlier 1747-PIC is troublesome on modern serial ports and simply won't work on USB-serial converters.

Check your software compatibility - some of the earlier versions don't have the driver for the 1747-UIC.

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

i recommend the 1747uic as well.  with the uic you will configure a df1 driver in linx however the uic will do the dh485 comms conversion.  also for the processor you have i would not invest in the pcmk card. get the uic or a laptop that has a serial port.

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

Are you using the 1761-CBL-PM02 cable?

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

(OP)
Yes, I used the same cable that I was using on the Belkin, but don't take my experience as gospel... I had pulled my hair out and just thought that since I had the
walmart USB to serial cable that I would try it.  Others tell me that it will not work, but it worked for me...
sometimes there can be a conflict between a certain cable and the computer.

RE: Trouble connecting to MicroLogix1000

Try radio shack usb to serial adapter is working very  well on my system.
