(OP)
Can anyone recommend a good text(s) for hillside residential building and retaining walls?  I'm a mech. eng. so I'm a little out of my league and I'd like to get a head start on the architect and engineer on the project.

RE: retaining wall text

Good basic treatment of retaining walls in Navy Engineering Manual DM-7.  It is available online.  There are other military manuals as well.

RE: retaining wall text

There is another text that is specifically for retaining walls and provides several (read enormous numbers) configurations for retaining walls.  Not only are the typical cantilever and gravity walls noted but also the structural material such as concrete and masonry.

It was mentioned in another thread in this forum, so I suggest for the exact title you perform a search for retaining walls and look it up.  Sorry not to be of more help.
