Disable eDrawing 2007 Move Tool

Disable eDrawing 2007 Move Tool

Disable eDrawing 2007 Move Tool

(OP)
I am looking to disable the Move Tool in eDrawing 2007 sp02, as I thought previously we were able to disable this tool.

I have done a search and unless I am typing in the wrong search keywords, am unable to find what I am looking for.

If someone can point me in the right direction or enlighten me on whether one is able to do this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Kevin

RE: Disable eDrawing 2007 Move Tool

The standard (non-professional) version of eDrawings does not have the Move function. Can you use it?

cheers

RE: Disable eDrawing 2007 Move Tool

BTW, why would you want to disable that function?

cheers

Thanks for the reply,

Yes I can use it. I have eDrawings Professional.

The reason I wish to disable it is, I believe it is in the best interest of the customer and myself. They will move a part out of place, and although I know you can hit the home button and everything goes back to place, I would rather not explain this to them. I would just rather disable it and not have to worry about it. Sometimes they have a hard time figuring stuff like this out, especially when they are so surprised you can send them an .exe 3D file in which they can see the assembly in 3D first hand.

I know I can save the assembly as a part file and then a .eprt, which then they are unable to move parts around in eDrawing, the only problem with this is..............if I want to show different configs (showing different positions) in the part file I need to go and hide/surpress many bodies.  I may be going about this all wrong, so if there is a different way to show multiple positions in a eDrawing please let me know!!

Thanks again for the reply!!

RE: Disable eDrawing 2007 Move Tool

I believe CBL was suggesting that your customer use eDrawings Standard which does not have the move ability rather than eDrawings Professional which does have the move command.

I would think that the .exe would only contain the Standard / free version of eDrawings rather than the full Professional version.

maybe just send the client a 3D pdf file. this is apparently a new feature in 2007

CBL and Eric,

I tried the .exe on a computer which did not have any eDrawing package on it and I was still able to move stuff unfortunately.

mattarr,

I thought of sending a 3D pdf file to the customer, however those files can get fairly large. Also the customer, if they do not have the proper Adobe packages, has to start upgrading and downloading, which in my opinion they should do, but some don't.

I will figure something out.
Thanks for the help guys!!

RE: Disable eDrawing 2007 Move Tool

An ".exe" file will inherit the abilities of the eDrawing package which creates it. If you create the ".exe" with the standard package, it should not have the Move or Measure functions.

RE: Disable eDrawing 2007 Move Tool

Sounds like you need to create configurations in your part/assembly file.  When you save to an eDrawing format (part, assembly, drawing) you have the option of selecting which configurations to save with the file.  Very cool feature, and it's easy for the client to see the various configurations, since they have large thumbnail (labeled) tabs.

Also, if you want to show motion, you can create an animation in your assembly and eDrawings will include the animation within the file as well.  I just discovered this and now prefer that to creating saved AVI files--just becomes part of the eDrawing file.

RE: Disable eDrawing 2007 Move Tool

I had this problem with a customer once. I just trained him (and the engineers) how to use it properly.
