File size patches (the microsoft ones!) are available!

Check out your tech alerts, SolidWorks got permission to distribute the patches needed for the file size reduction!

Search the knowledge base for 012243 to get the x64 version and 012242 for the 32 bit version.

Thanks Stefan. Do you know if the previous hotfix should be uninstalled before applying this new one?

cheers

I don't know for sure, but most hotfixes I've seen can be installed over any previous version. I just did that and it worked fine on Windows XP x64

First I took a design table driven bolt, I guess about 100 configurations:

Original:
5772 kB

plain save (with patch):
5824 kB

save as copy (with patch):
1035 kB

Opening the copy and doing a CTRL-Q with a couple of configs caused the file to grow back to 5.7 MB

On the other hand, I tried a SKF SNL bearing unit assembly (3 configs):

original 5913 kB
Each config CTR-Q and save: 3848 kB

So it seems to depend... some parts/assemblies benefit, some do not.

RE: File size patches (the microsoft ones!) are available!

I did not see any significant file reductions for 20MB, 5MB & 2MB documents. However, I was already running the original (flawed) hotfix, so the file sizes may have been reduced already. Short of uninstalling the hotfixes and re-testing I have no way of knowing now.

cheers
