Nozzle Repair

Nozzle Repair

Nozzle Repair

(OP)
I have a pressure vessel that has corrosion damage on the sealing face.  The flange face damage is not severe enough to warrant a replavement flange, we are planning on welding ou the corrosion damage and machining the face,

The fabrication company have provided a weld procedure for V butt welds for welding new flanges to the nozzles, nozzle is A105 GrB & flange is A105N.  Will this procedure cover weld repairs to the flange face?

RE: Nozzle Repair

Sounds good up front. Depends on where you are~"R" stamp perhaps?

RE: Nozzle Repair

Make sure that the weld procedure specification is the correct one covering the base material group, base material thickness, filler metal and is qualified with impact testing. I would presume you will be keeping the weld metal overlay thickness at or below ½”, use a generous preheat (250 deg F) and no PWHT should be required for this material. I would weld out the entire flange face.

You can consider local weld repair to the flange face using the above. However, you need to peen the edges of the damaged area before welding to avoid having undercut around the perimeter of the repair area after welding.

RE: Nozzle Repair

As deanc stated the repair shop needs a "R" stamp for a new namplate and the accompanying paper work.

RE: Nozzle Repair

What should the new nameplate for a repair or an alteration contain?

RE: Nozzle Repair

fronten;
Please obtain a copy of the National Board Inspection Code (NB-23). The National Board deals with nameplate registration requirements for pressure retaining items, and what is required for Repair and Alteration activities, including stamping requirements.
