Materials of Construction for NaOH / Mg(OH)2

Materials of Construction for NaOH / Mg(OH)2

(OP)
Hello, I need to determine proper materials of construction for a vessel storing aqueous solutions of NaOH or Mg(OH)2 (or other bases).  I am familiar with materials for acids but not bases.  Any help would be appreciated

RE: Materials of Construction for NaOH / Mg(OH)2

Depends on temperature, concentration, and allowable corrosion rate.  Carbon steels are most common, nickel alloys (200 or 201, Monel 400, and Inconel 600) are used for higher concentrations and temperatures, and thermoplastics can be used when temperature and pressure are low.

Cory
