Concrete Integral Pier Caps
Concrete Integral Pier Caps
(OP)
I am working on the design of a concrete integral pier cap for a two-span curved girder unit. The column is about 48' high and the overall roadway is 50' wide. My question is how to perform the column analysis? Some technical papers I read required full longitudinal frame analysis with girders, caps, and columns. Do you think it is necessary to go through such a complex analysis? That seems to me will involve 3-D finite element analysis. Another question is how to calculate the corresponding torsion imparted into the cap, either for a hinged or fixed cap-column connection.

RE: Concrete Integral Pier Caps
and would provide you with all of the forces you are concerned with. The complexity of the model is up to you and what is available in your design budget. I would try to keep it a simple as possible though.
