Castigliano difficulties

Quick question...as a section of a deflected beam under load i have come to...

the integral from 0-L of F/EI(L+R)(L+R)dx. Bit embarrasing but I need some reassurance on the solution to this integral. It's been a while since I had to do this manually.

RE: Castigliano difficulties

You have more problems than integration. This doesn't look like Castigliano to me. Explain what you are trying to do  and you will get plenty of help here. Your function shows R and L and why would you integrate over the whole beam? Are they functions of x? If not the integral is meaningless.

RE: Castigliano difficulties

U = 1/2 (INTERGAL 0 - L) M^2/EI dx

For a beam in bending.

U = 1/2 (INTERGAL 0 - L) F^2/EA dx

For a beam in axial loading

Sorry people. Didn't really explain myself very well. It was just a small section of a u-shaped bracket. However I have managed to sort it all out. Thanks anyway
