Add-in That Won't Initialize/Load

Add-in That Won't Initialize/Load

Add-in That Won't Initialize/Load

(OP)
Good morning, I got a rude surprise this morning when I tried to start SW Office 2006 sp4.1.  It suddenly said that it could not load PhotoWorks.  I tried rebboting the computer and that did not help, because it keeps telling me that it can not load the add-in.  I then tried to use the fix on the install disk and still nothing and then I tried to use modify, all addin's and still nothing and right now I am looking at un-installing and reinstalling SW, because I have now rebooted the computer about six timeds and run fix twice and modify twice and I still can not get PhotWorks to load and I am the only one on the network who has PhotoWorks checked.  Any suggestions before I un-install the program?  Is there any way of saving the options?  Thank you for any assistance in advance.

How can I keep my settings and toolbars when I re-install SolidWorks  FAQ559-655

Thanks for the response, but I tried what was suggested in FAQ559-655 and I could not even do the first step because I could not find C:\Program files\solidworks\user directory.  I did a search of the C drive for all *.cus files and not one was found.  I thought this would be great, but I can not find it.  I have my library add-in's and templets already copied to  some network directories.  My options are about the only thing left, but I do have them writen down, just in case.  Thanks again.

RE: Add-in That Won't Initialize/Load

SW doesn't use the *.cus file anymore... everything is save at the registry level now - also see FAQ559-1158

But what you really need to do is either run Copy settings wizard or export out your Reg key from the registry under HKEY-CURRENT_USER\Software\Solidworks

Everything else like library parts, templates etc... you will have to manually backup yourself.

Thanks Scott, I already have all of the other stuff copied off onto the severs, which are backed up nightly.  What is the Copy Setting Wizard anyway?  I have those setting written down manually, but that sounds better.

RE: Add-in That Won't Initialize/Load

Without knowing what caused the problem, could you run Windows XP system restore to bring it back to yesterdays or last weeks restore point?  This has helped me in the past.

RE: Add-in That Won't Initialize/Load

Start\Programs\Solidworks\Solidworks Tools\Copy options wizard.

It makes a file which is essentially a Reg file that gets processed back into the registry when you restore the settings using that file. Copy options Wizard does both - Save and Restore.
