Ethernet determinism

Ethernet determinism

Ethernet determinism

(OP)
I am looking for data that shows determinism of Ethernet vs. Arcnet.

We use Arcnet on a 8-10 node system running QNX4 and I would like to migrate to Ethernet. Several engineers in my company harp on Ethernet's nondeterministic nature. I feel that with just 10 nodes, and very low utilization, determinism is not an issue, but I need DATA.

Please help me show these people the light!

RE: Ethernet determinism

If you are using Win-NT then use network monitoring tool to annalyse your network

RE: Ethernet determinism

Ethernet in nature is nondeterministic but that is not a
problem when you have the right backbone. With only 10 node
a small ethernet switch can route your traffic with no
problem in the way of making sure the data gets there. I work with Xylan equipment and bandwidth or reliabilty has never been an issue.
