SolidWorks 2007 Performance
(OP)
This message has probably already been posted, but I have to ask anyway.
What is your thought on the Performance of SWx 2007 ? I've noticed some slowness in my system, occassional crashes, and sluggish response's to simple commands.
Please let me know your comments.
Thanks
Brian

RE: SolidWorks 2007 Performance
What version were you running before SW07?
What are your system specs? Are they suitable for SW07?

Reason trumps all. And awe trumps reason.
RE: SolidWorks 2007 Performance
Yesterday I called my resellers, and got the good ol voice mail bum rush, I left a message, and my call was never returned. That is great. I think Solidworks is beginning to suffer from the Peter Principle, I've despised my job, ever since switching to 2007. I'm done whining. Because I've also learned that bad mouthing Solidworks is a no no here.
RE: SolidWorks 2007 Performance
Now perhaps you will open a new thread and supply some information which may shed some light on your problems.
Please start by listing your computer specs., followed by a summary of the problems you are currently having.
If I remember correctly you are running a Dell ??? with nVidia fx3000, 4GB RAM, XPx64 and SW07x64. Is that correct?
Which video drivers have you tried & using now?
Which SW-SP? (You should be running at least SP1.1 to avoid the "failed to save document" error)
Was XPx64 installed by Dell?
Which XPx64 hotfixes are installed?
Are the RAM sticks identical? (brand, type, speed, etc)
Are you accessing a network for anything SW related? (PDM, Library, etc)
What add-ins do you have running?
RE: SolidWorks 2007 Performance
This morning it is crashing while I shift select multiple components and attempt to swith materials in photoworks. "Unhandled Error SW needs to Restart" I used the DVD to install both the software and the Service Packs.
I'm sure the "unable to save" will eventully start happening again today as well.
RE: SolidWorks 2007 Performance
Turning the 3GB switch on was a great idea and it runs much faster then it did before.
Cheeseburger you are going to have to list your specs and especially your Video card and the drivers that you are using.
Not saying that's the problem, but that is a Super important part of SW. VC and drivers cause more issues then most people realize. Sometimes reinstalling a certified driver will fix an issue.
I recently found this out - If you use a Wireless keyboard and mouse and are crashing, trying switching back to a corded one. One customer recently had a conflict between the mouse and keyboard. When the user rotated the model SW would hang and crash... You would think VC or driver or even SW, but it turns out the issue was the mouse and keyboard. When he switched to a corded mouse and keyboard the problem went away?

RE: SolidWorks 2007 Performance
A couple of months ago I read here someone saying that if your computer and the server are de-synchronised by more than some 30 or 40 sec, (I don't remember) then the system is very prone to crashes ...
RE: SolidWorks 2007 Performance
the failed to save document problem is not related to storage or network connectivity. At least not in my situations. I've discovered the problem is related to a feature or features depending on a vertex or face to define it:up to vertex,From surface etc.
If the feature is broken,( face missing, vertex location cannot be determined, external reference out of context or broken.), even if you suppress the features the failed to save problem still exist.
If the features fail in one configuration and not another, when you switch to the failing configuration, the failed to save error will come up, and you won't be able to save the document.
If you don't switch to the failing configuration the document could be saved.
This is particularly irritating for me, since i love to use vertices's to control the thickness extruded features from configuration to configuration.
DELETE or fix the failing feature and the document will rebuild and save successfully.
