I have an existing #6 AWG feed cable coming off a distribution panel which extends 520 ft. to the load.  I would like to take this feed conductors off the panel and connect to a dedicated MCC.  Cost is an issue, so I want to know if I can splice this cable with another cable?  The 520 ft feed cable feeds a delta 480V, 15 KVA transformer. The distance from the splice which will be located inside a junction box to the MCC is 230 ft.

RE: splicing different size conductor

Is this a real project??

You can not afford #6 wires for an MCC? What can you afford?

Have you reviewed the load and voltage drop?

Do you have a NEC book? The length you mention are far beyond any tap rules. You will require a overcurrent protection at the "tap" to protect the new branch.
