Cut Assemblys into Crossectional pieces.
Cut Assemblys into Crossectional pieces.
(OP)
I am trying to figure out how to take a sold object in solid works, cut it into multible pieces and then take the individual pieces and generate a 2d dxf files.
Consider a 16 in long 6 in wide 2 in thick box, and i wanted to cut it into 32 equal pieces 1/2 in wide. Basically generating 32 differnt 2d drawins that are 6 inches by 2 inches. If i wanted them to be 1/4 in wide i would end up with 64 equal pieces. so on and so on. I would like to be able to both cut out these pieces and view each in a 2d form as well as be able to have them in an exploded 3d format like an accordian.
thanks

When layed out flat (cross section) it looks like a bunch of random bumps but when the cross sections are stacked they form interconnecting rings and grooves.
As for using section views in a drawing, i can do it that way but... 1. it doesnt let me be very consistant (is there a grid / snap option in the drawing field?)2. i am really needing to do this to an object that is 60x80 inches and my cross sectios are on the order of .060 so this method might get out of hand (1000 + cros sections one at a time)

Place planes wherever you need to cut the box. A patterned surface could also be used.
Use the Split tool using the planes or surfaces.
Create configs using a DT which suppresses the resulting multi-bodies.
Each config can then be placed in a drawing view.
Not sure how you could handle the exploded view other than saving the bodies out separately and building an assy from them.
