exporting assembly to layers

exporting assembly to layers

When exporting from Solidworks with intended import to Mastercam how do I control what layer each part will be on in Mastercam?

RE: exporting assembly to layers

Which version of Mastercam are you using?
MastercamX will import native SolidWorks files ... so layers would be unnecessary.

Doesn't Mastercam import SW drawing layers as created in SW?

cheers

Solidworks doesn't have layers for components of assembly.
So if I bring a native Solidworks file to Mastercam it would be like Solidworks (no layers).  The file is going to my customers Mastercam (I don't know what version) and they want it to open with components on layers (ie all bolts on 1 layer, all pins on another) I use ProE mostly and I can control it there by putting the components on a layer and identifing the layer to go to a numbered layer in Mastercam.  I am thinking there is probably a way to do this in Solidworks even though Solidworks doesn't use layers it does have individual components in assembly.  Thank you

RE: exporting assembly to layers

So you [b]are[/u] importing 3D solids into Mastercam ... not 2D drawings? (DWG or DXF)

Can Mastercam use colours or custom properties to distinguish between parts?

cheers

Yes I am sending parts to Mastercam.  Yes Mastercam does use colors and that may work just fine. Ididn't think of that, I am going to try it. Thank you
