Wind Load on Stack
Wind Load on Stack
(OP)
I have a 30 inch stack with a length of 200 inch long. It is sitting vertical with one end fixed and exposed to a wind load of 180 k/hr. I converted the wind load to pressure and applied the load as pressure, but I don’t think this is correct. Any input to this issue are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

RE: Wind Load on Stack
the wind load applied as pressure seems to me absolutely correct, provided that the pressure has been calculated the correct way.
You have to take into account wind speed, of course (celerity load will convert into static pressure load via the theorem of Bernoulli, trivially...), but also shape factor of the surface where wind impacts.
Note that all this is normally normated. Just for example, for high-voltage lines' supporting towers, in Italy, there is a very specific directive from the Electric Committee, CEI.
