Add dimension from hidden line geometry in drawing

Add dimension from hidden line geometry in drawing

Add dimension from hidden line geometry in drawing

Is there a switch that will allow dimensions from hidden view geometry in a drawing?

I want to add a construction line from a front view feature but I want to dimension it from from the top view? In short is there a way to dimension between views?

This may or may not break the rules of proper dimensioning, but sometimes this is what the boss wants.

Nope, no way to dimension from an entity belonging to one view to an entity belonging to another.

How about dimensioning from hidden line side view geometry? such as a c-bore depth...

Try Tools > Options > System Options tab > Drawings > "Select hidden entities" and see if that lets you dimension to hidden lines.  It seems like I can pick hidden lines regardless if that box is checked, but I can't find another switch.

Sure, you can dimension to hidden lines.  Change the view type to hidden lines visible, add your dimension, and change it back.  You may have to go to Tools->Options, System Options tab, choose "Display/Selection", and check the box for "Allow selection in wireframe and HLV modes".

RE: Add dimension from hidden line geometry in drawing

Flores,
Never noticed the "Select hidden entities" box there.  I'm not sure what that one does.

RE: Add dimension from hidden line geometry in drawing

Here's the difference:

Quote:

Select hidden entities. When selected, you can select hidden (removed) tangent edges and edges that you have hidden manually. When you pass the pointer over hidden edges, the edges appear in phantom line font.

Quote:

Selection of hidden edges
Allow selection in wireframe and HLV modes. Allows you to select hidden edges or vertices in Wireframe and Hidden Lines Visible modes.

Allow selection in HLR and shaded modes. Allows you to select hidden edges or vertices in Hidden Lines Removed, Shaded With Edges, and Shaded modes.
