Proportional/Amplifier Valve Problem

Hi,
I have a proportional valve driven by a 4-20mA signal. This directly ports oil to an amplifier stage (another valve mounted directly to the proportional valve). The amplifier spool moves very slow (can take up to 30 seconds to move from one position to the null position). The proportional valve is working correctly, however we cannot determine why the spool reaction in the amplifier stage is so slow. This is a hydraulic system at about 200 psi. Any suggestions?

The performance of proportional valves can vary widely dependent on the amount of oil flowing through them.
They are generally more responsive when they have a large pressure drop, having said that if they have too much oil flowing through them when the command signal is dropped, the valve can struggle to find its normal position.
