AC Induction 3 phase motor wiring

AC Induction 3 phase motor wiring

(OP)
I have a AC Induction motor with Line Run wiring and Line Start wiring. The Line Run wiring connects 1 to 12, 2 to 10 and 3 to 11 and 6&9,4&7,5&8. The Line Start wiring connects 10,11,12 together, line on 1,2,3 and 4&7,5&8,6&9.
Which wiring should I use?

RE: AC Induction 3 phase motor wiring

You have a star-delta motor. You need a star delta starter.
The star delta starter will use the start connection to start the motor and then change to the run connection to run the motor.

RE: AC Induction 3 phase motor wiring

To run it you need to use the line run connection. You don't necessarily need a star-delta starter. You could possibly also use a contactor, VFD, soft-starter or autotransformer to start the motor depending on the motor and application.

RE: AC Induction 3 phase motor wiring

Use the run (delta) connection if the voltage and frequency on the motor nameplate matches that on the intended power supply. As LionelHutz said you do not necessarily need to use a wye start-delta run control. For low HP motors or a large enough substation you could start at full voltage, it depends on your load requirements and line limitations.
