Diamond coatings for drill bits

Diamond coatings for drill bits

(OP)
The company I work for requires drill bits to be coated with an ultrahard substance like diamond. The drill bit shape is quite unique so we can make the steel substrate of the drill and send it off to be be coated. Are there any companies out there that would coat these bits?

RE: Diamond coatings for drill bits

Do you know what coating you're looking for specifically?  I say this because "like diamond" and diamond coatings may be two different things.  You'll also have to determine whether you want a PVD or CVD coating, with CVD being more likely to soften or temper your substrate material due to the application temperature.

Oerlikon Balzers is listed in the links.  They have a pretty good review of their product lines on the website.  In addition, one of their salespersons will likely get you a more in-depth CD in a day or two if you request it.

What material are you trying to drill btw?
