concrete core building

concrete core building

(OP)
I am looking to model a (3) story building using staad|pro.  The center of the structure will consist of a concrete core with a structural steel frame surrounding the core.  Regarding the center core of the structure, do I need to model this using a shear wall in staad OR do I just fix those points?  What would be the best approach about modeling this building?

Also, are there better FEA software's out there for doing this type of building design?

Thank you

RE: concrete core building

You can model this structure using shear walls in staad ,but also you can use pin points connections at the concrete core structure at slab and beam points to idealize the shear reactions acting on the shear walls at each building level.  With it horizontal and vertical shear reactions you can use the ACI code to design the shear walls of the concrete core, in addition you can corroborate the design using FEA software. Is important to be carefully when you use designs software’s to determine rebar’s and walls thickness do to the dynamic ACI code changes. My recommendation is, use the program for reactions, moments and preliminary design, but the ACI code for shear wall final design.
