Circuit Breaker Testing

Circuit Breaker Testing

(OP)
Is there a need to conduct Reduced Voltage Trip and Close Coil Testing on circuit breakers? What maintenance is necessary for tripping and closing coils of circuit breakers? What are their current maintenance practices in trip/close coils? Any IEEE/ASTM Standard related to trip/close coils testing?

RE: Circuit Breaker Testing

The IEEE Blue book (Std 1015-1997), Applying Low-Voltage Circuit Breakers Used in Industrial and Commercial Power Systems, has recommended testing for Close coil and trip coil minimum voltage operation.  Additionally, test procedures used in the commercial nuclear power industry require testing of the breaker control circuit a minimum specified voltages.
So, you need to check what the minimum voltages are for your circuit breaker control circuit and test to those voltages.
