Meshing with surface-partitioned block

Meshing with surface-partitioned block

Meshing with surface-partitioned block

(OP)
Hi, I am analyzing 3D pavement dynamic response using abaqus. One trouble came up during model meshing. On pavement surface, partition has to be made for applying traffic loading. However, after surface is partitioned, it is not allowed to mesh model with structured brick element(Hexehedron). Is there someone konwing how to avoid this trouble? Thanks.

RE: Meshing with surface-partitioned block

Extend the partition line through the solid.

Thanks, corus. It works.
But for single axle with dual tires (non-equal loading area), it makes model building and meshing much more time-consuming.
Also, I was wondering if you happen to know how to apply non-reflective boundary conditions for dynamic analysis.
Thank you again.

RE: Meshing with surface-partitioned block

With a line on a surface you may be able to get a swept mesh and so keep brick-type elements. In addition, instead of applying the load directly to the solid you could always apply it through a rigid body of the correct shape which is in contact with the solid. More expensive in running the job though.
I have no idea what a non-reflective boundary condition is, sorry.
