RE: HELP!! opening UNigraphics file in PRO E
You have to BUY a special translator from PTC, list price $9,500.
A STEP file or a parasolid export from UG will come in just as clean.
In fact the custom translator is doing a STEP output from UG in background and then importing that in to Pro/E. It takes a while because of the double processing.

as far as I know, there is no interoperability and interchangeability between CAD software, So everytime when you want to open a file made with a different CAD you have first to creat on the native CAD software an export file like STP, IGS, and after that to import it in ProE, for our situation. The problem is that the just imported feature will be on the new file something not to be modified, so any modification must be done on the original CAD, than export again and import again.
The file created on ProE with the imported feature in can be use for your purpose, like to add in assemblies, so on, or to be used as reference to create new geometry , but that it.

UG NX4+ can 'open' a Pro/E file with a license and software, but Pro/E is not required to be on the workstation.

and being confused by it I'm hoping you'll share some hands
on practical knowledge.
When you say "STEP"; that's to indicate features are not
translated? I'm assuming that when reading, writing,
importing, exporting native UG a gPlug type Parasolid <->

Thanks in advance.

When I tested it, it was faster and gave us better results to use STEP files for the transfer.
