Extruding from a surface

Extruding from a surface

Please help me.

I am trying to extrude shapes from a surface in ProE wildfire 3. I am trying to model a soccer boot sole in a bent position and i am having trouble extruding the studs from the sole surface. I have tried many methods including using tangental datums but every time I finish the studs still look like they are coming from a datum rather than the sole. Is there a method where I can sketch on a doubly curved surface such as this and extrude the sketch shape outwards?

I have seen this operation carried out easily in solid works in the past and I was wondering how this is done in ProE as I do not have a copy of Solidworks to hand.

RE: Extruding from a surface

Try using "Edit - Offset" and change the pull down from "Standard Offset" feature to "With Draft" feature. You can pick or create a sketch of the stud, and it will create the required geometry. As the name implies, you can also offset with draft, and you can change the offset to be normal to the surface or to the sketch plane etc. If you pattern the sketch, you can reference pattern the offset feature to give you a full set of studs.
