Group VI Materials and Footnote 13

Group VI Materials and Footnote 13

Group VI Materials and Footnote 13

(OP)
We are currently designing a tank using one of the Table 2-3 Group VI materials with a Sd of 32000 psi for the bottom two shell courses. Footnote 13 refers us to 3.7.4.6 which says that the material we are using "shall be represented by test specimens that have been subjected to the same heat treatment as that used for the stress relieved assembly".

Does anyone have any experience with this provision? What is meant by "represented by test specimens"? Is the intent to stress relieve any required test coupons for any required impact tests or weld procedure qualification tests?

Thanks for any help - we are pushing are limts here!

RE: Group VI Materials and Footnote 13

I believe that you are interpreting this provision correctly.  You will be required by the Standard to subject the test specimens to the same het treatment as the insert assemblies to be installed in the tank.
