Overtrawlability of Subsea Structures
Overtrawlability of Subsea Structures
(OP)
I am currently looking at designing a subsea manifold to be overtrawlable.
I have reports for numerous tank tests we have had commissioned for a number of specific projects and same very basic guidance in Norsok U-002. The structures do follow Norsok but in all cases snag fishing gear.
Does anyone know of any ongoing resarch in this area that might be of use to me? I understand it is not a subject that has received much attention.

AnchorTech have a pateneted structure design, although quick search didn't show anything on the web. They were born from reasearch origonally done at Queen Mary College in London (now QMUL).
They are part of Technip, so not sure how much of a 'stand-alone' company they are.
I've seen structures that look the part, but as you say not sure if they actually are over-trawlable.
Sorry, bit sketchy but as you say not much info about, most design houses just seem to come out with their own versions, much like most other subsea structures!
btw, I think U-002 has been superseded by U-001, same info though regarding design loads etc.
RE: Overtrawlability of Subsea Structures
You are right that U-002 has been superseded, however the overtrability guidelines (minimum member radius 250mm, minimum angle 58 degrees) have been removed.
We have had Trevor Jee do a number of tank tests for us in the past including some on those which follow Norsok, so I know they dont work.
Thanks for the post though.
