Hidden objects/views on layers???

Hidden objects/views on layers???

Hidden objects/views on layers???

(OP)
I have been having trouble exporting solids from file to file. After investigating this problem for about a week now,,,the only common thing I can find is that I have hiiden objects on layers 2 and 100. Not quite sure how they got there or how to delete them. I tried to run a program for deleting views on layers,,,but the error UF_OBJ_delete_object keeps coming back. Basically I cannot delete my problem. Part clean-up works on the file so I can export,,,but I still have all these extra views that an export or two the problem re-occurs. Please help

I do not believe we have that toolkit. Is there a trial version or how do I access this. I need to convince the higher ups that this will work before I can talk about possibly buying an add-on license. Thank you

RE: Hidden objects/views on layers???

If you are a supplier for GM you can buy the Toolkit for a nominal price. Last time i heard it was something around $200 for a site/company use license. That may have changed though. It may be available from UGS or at least in their price book.

RE: Hidden objects/views on layers???

look at www.solidnx.com  there is a cool clean layer tool

RE: Hidden objects/views on layers???

We have the toolkit,,,I'm not sure if it is the right one or the right version. Do you know what version or more specific of what I would need. The one on SolidNX did not clean-up the layers for me. I tried using it,,,it showed me all the layers with the blank objects on it,, click delete,, and it would come back an dtell me it could not delete objects on layers. Basically did nothing. This is causing a huge problem for my company,,,we have files becoming "dirty" and cannot export from them. Our only solution so far is to run a part clean-up,,and that usually takes minimum 12-15 hours ...PER file.

RE: Hidden objects/views on layers???

have you imported Iges files into this files. You have costumised views / try to delete them when you know that you did not use them. Look at groups....

RE: Hidden objects/views on layers???

I will check on the importing iges file. The problem occured when I did a complete job on a ramped up 64 bit machine and a fellow co-worker did a minor change to it,,,the file become EXTREMELY slow. JUst to export a smalll block out of a .prt file will take over 20 minutes. If I go back to my original file I can export the whole job(300 MB) in less that 2 minutes. My guess is that something is making this file dirty in the process. I can't seem to get a concrete answer on what is going on. Thanks

RE: Hidden objects/views on layers???

Sorry,,,,my co-worker has a 32 bit machine. that's when the file became slow

RE: Hidden objects/views on layers???

when you import iges iges will allso import views and view dependent geometrie you only see in this views. The same is with groups. Look at the partnavigator in turn off timestamp order and look at unused items. Some times it good to create a new custumized view in modelling in some cases you will see views you never created.
....

RE: Hidden objects/views on layers???

The problem layers seem to always be 2 & 100. I have yet to find a solution to avoid these problems. File-Utilities-Part Cleanup does work,,,,but I am trying to stop the problem up front .

RE: Hidden objects/views on layers???

As John Baker has already pointed out, your best bet is to send the files into GTAC, regardless of the turnaround time.  You're not the first person to have a bad experience in tunraround time.  Even if they don't offer a complete solution, they MIGHT be able to give you some advice as what NOT to be doing.  I'm skeptikal of the 64-bit going to 32-bit, but that's a complete guess.
