SolidWorks 2007 and Virus Protection turn Off or On?

SolidWorks 2007 and Virus Protection turn Off or On?

SolidWorks 2007 and Virus Protection turn Off or On?

(OP)
SolidWorks is not telling us to turn our Virus Protection off while installing service pack 0. Does anyone have a good reason to turn off the Virus Protection during upgrades?

RE: SolidWorks 2007 and Virus Protection turn Off or On?

Yes it doens't update DLL files that are protected by your AV and spyware apps.

You should ALWAYS shut offy our AV and Spyware apps when installing.

Look at their knowledge base Iam sure its in there.

While I agree that, in most cases, you should turn off your AV and spyware, it's not always necessary. We can't turn it off here and have never had a problem with installs. The same holds true for the last company I worked for.

Maybe you are getting lucky... but if you have Standalone should unplug your ethernet cable then shut down the remaining AV data. If your SNL then your IT can shut it off temporarily. They will say they can't, but they can usually, they just don't want too.

SW recommends that AV and Spyware to be shut off during isntall... You can ask anyone there about that and they will tell you that. I think Norton's is the worst out of them all

RE: SolidWorks 2007 and Virus Protection turn Off or On?

Again, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, Scott, I'm just saying that it isn't always necessary. I even installed SW '06 on my laptop without shutting down the AV and it was Norton's. Granted, I'd planned on shutting it down, I just spaced it out.
SW isn't the only software that recommends shutting down AV, but I think a lot of it is CYA type of stuff.

Jeff,
      I argued with our IT people until they just gave in. Then he taught me how to shut AV off. You may know this, but for those of you who do not;
In window Start button, run, type in services.msc click OK. Find your AV “ours is Network Associates McShield” then RMC pick properties. Change “Startup type:” to disabled. Click Stop button. Click OK. We do not have too, but most of us do the same to “McAfee Framework Service”.
After the computer is rebooted the AV comes back on most of the time.

It's been posted here many times to disable antivirus AND antispyware programs.  This is is from "Troubleshooting Computer and SolidWorks Issues"

Quote:

Was antivirus software running when you installed SolidWorks? If so, turn off your anti-virus, reinstall SW and reapply all SPs, then turn AV back on.

Never used services.msc, but it looks like the same list as entering "msconfig" in Run, and picking the Services tab.

RE: SolidWorks 2007 and Virus Protection turn Off or On?

In my last job, we were prohibited by corporate from turning off our AV at any time.  Even the system admins who had permission to do that would set off alarm bells (literally) at corporate if they did that, so they never did it.  I never had a problem with installing SW while AV was on, although I would have preferred to do things "by the book."

RE: SolidWorks 2007 and Virus Protection turn Off or On?

The AV programs seem to be getting better at not interfering with installs. When I loaded SW07 I purposely left Panda AV running to see what would happen and (so far) I have not experienced any problems.

When I joined this company I loaded SW2000 with Norton running and we had lots of problems. Uninstalled & reinstalled with Norton off and never had a problem after.

cheers
