Smart feature external reference broken

Smart feature external reference broken

Smart feature external reference broken

(OP)
Hello,

I'm creating a smart component which is a liner bushing. I want to insert the bushing into an assembly, select my configuration and position it in the assembly. Then, I want to insert the hole for the component (insert smart component features) and it should be the right size. The problem I have is that the hole is a counter-bore with the counter bore depth being constrained to one edge of the liner (see images below) by editing the hole sketch, suppressing the Cbore depth dimension and adding a collinear external relation.

What happens is, the reference is broken to the external relation when I insert the smart features, so the counter-bore depth is incorrect. Am I doing something wrong?

Any ideas? Am I not clear on something?

RE: Smart feature external reference broken

Your explanation of the problem seems quite clear and the sequence of pictures makes it quite clear.  However I have not tried working with the smart components so I don't have any suggestions.

I wouldn't take the lack of replies as a snub.  These people are pretty good about posting when they have something useful to say.  But when no one knows, you end up with silence.

RE: Smart feature external reference broken

Maybe you could try modeling it differently.  Rather than using a hole wizard hole with a couner bore, use a through hole and a second hole or extruded cut with an up to surface end condition that is referenced to the face of the linear bearing.  The down side of this approach is that you will likely lose the compound callout for the counterbored hole.
