Opening generic of family table part while instances are in session
Opening generic of family table part while instances are in session
(OP)
Does anyone else have problems with this?
I've got multiple instances of a part in session, and need to create another, but it won't let me open the generic part. It says "a model from another location is already in memory. Please enter a replacement name."
I've tried a couple different things, but they don't work.
I ended up closing my large assembly, erasing the parts in session, opening the part, asdding the instance, then opening the assembly and inserting the part.
this is a lot to go thru.
Am I missing something easier?
Thanks

Rename the generic model and put _gen at the end.
It seems like the generic and one of the instances have a conflict in the name.

That worked for me... Star for ya!
I'm adding to family tables that someone else created long ago, and they weren't very consistant with how they did things.
Fun!

What you need to do is decide which part becomes the "correct" part to use it from now on. Then replace the parts in the assemblies with this correct part, and move the duplicate named files somewhere else.
This error has nothing to do with generics and its instances.

What you should do is open the assembly, do a Model Info and make sure to have the config.pro show the filepath. Then search for your "duplicate" parts to see what directories they come from.

RE: Opening generic of family table part while instances are in session
I looked into them some more, and most of our family table files have the generic as one of the instances.
I've renamed the particular one I'm working on now, and made the generic name different. Seems to be working smoother now.
Thanks all for the input. Seems we had a little bit of everything wrong with the way these were made.
