PVC Pressure pipe underground installation

PVC Pressure pipe underground installation

(OP)
Anyone have AWWA M23 or some other source that would give what the minimum allowable radius that PVC watermain pipe can be installed without fittings that is with joint deflection only. I'm drawing up a subdivision with curvilineal streets - hence the question.
Thanks for any info

RE: PVC Pressure pipe underground installation

the way the bell and spiggot is constructed on most plastic water main is such that it affords essentially no defelection.  As such, good engineering practice would require the use of fittings.  If you are not using fittings you are bending the pipe and loading it in ways it was not intended to be loaded.

Obtain an Installation Guide from IPEX PVC Pipe Supplier.  Their web site is www.ipexinc.com. ; Typically you can get between 1 to 3 degrees deflection per joint depending on pipe size.

We consider 5 degrees and under to be within tolerance on c-900 at the bell in sandy soil, but we always pressure test at 90lbs(air)just to make sure. I have seen as much as 10 degrees on some of the systems that we have taken over, but in water hammer prone areas we have had to replace sections of thin wall.
