Angles in Move/Copy Body Feature cannot be used in equations

Angles in Move/Copy Body Feature cannot be used in equations

Angles in Move/Copy Body Feature cannot be used in equations

(OP)

Hello,

Good afternoon, here is a limitation that we encountered in SolidWorks:

"Angles in Move/Copy Body Feature cannot be used in equations"

In other words, if one uses the Move/Copy feature to rotate a body say 45 degrees. Then if you want the angle of rotation (45 degrees) to be used in or controlled by an equation, you cannot do this.

If you display all dimensions using the right click in Annotations, you will not see the angle of rotation. Also, if you double-click on the Move/Copy feature you will not see the angle of rotation.

It is interesting, that if you pattern a feature, you can select the number of instances in an equation or even the angle in a circular pattern. But none of this appears to work with the Move/Copy feature.

Perhaps there is a way to do this and we are doing something wrong. Please send us your comments and thoughts on this issue.

Thanking you in advance,

Joseph

You can now use mates with multi-bodies in SW07.
Could you use an angle mate instead of the Move/Copy?

cheers

Hi CorBlimeyLimey,

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, in our specific case using an angle mate would be too much of a head ache, because then we would have to select a face in the body. And since this project is for a large feature library, it would be mean mating to 50 faces or more per part, if we work on 100 parts, that is 50 x 100 mates. Even if we use the API, it is complicated. An equation would have been perfect and quick, but currently does not work with Move/Body.

Thanks anyways, I suspect this is a limitation, but in my opinion it is a bug, since other features can be used in equations but for some reason, not the Move/Body.

Kind regards,

Joseph

Why not use circular pattern and a delete body on the original.

josephv ... sorry to hijack your thread, but do you know anything about PlantWorks from Javelin? If you do, please post in "VMC/Machine models" thread559-168723. Thanks.

cheers

Hello rfus,

Brilliant! I never thought of this work around. It is too bad that we have to delete a body, but this is something that via the API could be done. Anyways, this is a good work around, thank you.

BTW... SolidWorks considers the issue "Angles in Move/Copy Body Feature cannot be used in equations" to be an SPR.

CorBlimeyLimey, sorry I don't know much about PlantWorks, I saw a brief demo once and it looked very good, your best bet is to contact Javelin.

Thank you everyone,

Joseph
