Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

(OP)
Hello,
If anyone has used following machine with Solidworks
I would like to know if it will support Solidworks 2006/07.
HP Compaq nw9440 Notebook PC
Intel Core Duo Processor T2500 2.0 GHz
Memory 2GB to 4GB
100 GB Hard Drive
NVIDA Quadro FX 1500M graphics cntroller with 256 MB of discrete video memory

Thank you
Sam

RE: Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

It should support it no problem, Sam. My previous laptop was a Compaq Presario with an AMD Athalon 64, 1.25GB RAM, 40GB hard drive and an NVIDIA Go graphics card (I don't remember which one...) and it ran SW '06 fine.
I had to upgrade when we switched to '07. I have an M90, like Phadreus, but with only 2GB RAM (couldn't justify the extra $2400).
In addition to the link that Phadreus gave you for video cards, check out the Computer hardware vendors too:

RE: Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

I can't speak to your specific machine but I will say that Solidworks has to be the only solid modeling software I have ever come across that will run on just about anything.

I have a rather old Dell Lattitude CPI machine at home and it runs Solidworks with no problems.

It's slow, but it does run it.  No crashing or funny graphics at all.

I think with Solidworks the real question is the performance on the machine given whatever it is you will be working on.

This proboably didn't help any but I thought I would chime in.

RE: Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

It should work without a hitch. I ran SW 2005 on a system that  only had 512Mb of ram and a 2Ghz processor. I ran it this way for about 2 1/2 years before getting a desk top. Just make sure you you a full size mouse and not a small laptop mouse. You hand might start cramping after awhile.

Thank you all
I will check all suggested links,

RE: Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

I would not recommend anything outside of SW supports... even if you have had luck running it, because if you come across that one file that won't run you will blame SW... had a customer do that to me recently... when in fact because the video card was not support, nor the laptop... there was nothing we could do, because the files he sent me opened fine.

RE: Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

I agree with Scott. You don't want to be caught working on a project, when in the middle of it, something funny happens, maybe not open, etc. I took Scott's, and others in this site, recommendations. Stick to the SolidWorks hardware recommendations; you'll safe yourself headaches and heartaches later on! Good luck!

RE: Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

The system you specified is "certified" by SW.

Providing you use the 6.14.10.8464 video card driver you should be good for SW05, SW06 and SW07.

cheers

RE: Laptop and Solidworks compatibility

Check out my sig.  I've been running 06 and 07 with no problems yet.  If it was my budget and choice I would've gone with the M90.
