MIN/MAX combination load analysis

MIN/MAX combination load analysis

MIN/MAX combination load analysis

(OP)
Hello,

Lets say I have 6 combination LOAD. After the analysis, is it possible to view quickly wich combination is causing the maximum or minimum MOMENT, SHEAR, etc ? Without analysing the complete table searching for the biggest value ?

I hope we can...but HOW ?

thx,

Adi,

RE: MIN/MAX combination load analysis

You can use an envelope combination type with the 6 load combinations. Using this you will get the MIN/MAX values for the combinations you want. With the max/min values, its easy and quicky to identify the load combinations for design. But, extra carefull in the design is needed or you will mix combinations, like for example in biaxial bending! Dont use an envelope combination type in the design, or use it but with carefull!

Regards,

Hi,

Thanks for helping. Not sure if I understand how...

Lets say I have 3 type of combination loads W (wind) L (live) D (Dead)wich are defined as :
COMB1=1.25D+0.4W+1.5L
COMB2=1.25D+1.5L
COMB3=0.9D+1.5L

Then where/how do I define the ENVELOPE ?

What I expect is to see Minimum and Maximum for COMB1, COMB2, etc...

Can you help ?

I'm using SAP2000 V10

thx

RE: MIN/MAX combination load analysis

Hi!

Ok, I'll try to explain without opening the program.

Go to the same menu command as for creating design combos (I think it's Define -> Combinations). Click Add New Combo. In combination type DropDownList select "Envelope" instead of "Linear Add". Then select combinations you need (multiply by 1.0, or what ever you need) and that's about it. Now you can see the envelopes after the calculation is done.

have a nice day

Hi,

I did what you said, I see many MIN/MAX in the result table. But If I have a structure with 10 steel frame, is it possible just to get ONE maximum value and only ONE minimum value ?

thank you
