Manual Emergency Shutdown

Manual Emergency Shutdown

Manual Emergency Shutdown

(OP)
A project that i am currently working on has a Manual ESD on Gas burning heater.  So there is a Sil rating (which I am not sure at the moment).  My supervisor is recommending a e-stop in the field near the heater and a Selector switch in the control room.  I question the use of the selector switch as a ESD device.  My back ground is in manufacturing and I would of put a E-stop in the control room.  So my supervisor is looking for the differences in the two devices.  I said that the selector switch is not a safety rated device and the E-stop is mechanically linked device which is more reliable and it is safety rated.  So what i am looking for is information to show the difference and if a selector switch can be used in a manual ESD.

Thanks for the help

RE: Manual Emergency Shutdown

Look into TUV rating of shutdown devices.  I think that you can find selector switches suitable for use as a shutdown device.
