E-Mailing Vaulted E-Drawings

E-Mailing Vaulted E-Drawings

(OP)
In SW2007 how can you e-mail an e-drawing of a vaulted document? 'Pack and Go'only seems to work on non-vaulted documents. I cannot find a way to make a copy of the e-drawing to a local drive. My VAR says that there is no way to do this, which strikes me as odd. Isn't that the purpose of e-drawings? I need to send prints to vendors and would rather not fax documents. This is the first time that I have had to do this with vaulted documents.

RE: E-Mailing Vaulted E-Drawings

Are you saying that you cannot open a document and then do a Save as (to an ".eprt" or ".easm" or ".edrw" file) to a location of your choice?

cheers

I can do that only if I check out the drawing and all of its components from the vault.

RE: E-Mailing Vaulted E-Drawings

With the API and triggers, you could probably do an automated eDrawing creation, but otherwise you need to check out the SW drawing (with all its required components) and save it as an eDrawings file, as CBL said.  The only way I know of to accomplish what you are trying to do is check the actual eDrawing files into the vault, which I don't recommend.

OK. Thanks for the information. Maybe its just me, but it would seem to make sense to be able to e-mail from the vault. For one or two drawings I don't mind having to check them out, but if you are sending out close to 100 drawings to vendors it would be rather tedious.

In PDMWorks, right mouse click on doc, select Document Properties. Select View tab, select eDrawings icon to send.

Could the SolidWorks Task Scheduler be used for this?

cheers

Chris,
That e-drawing send tip is great. You get another gold star.

I've been stingy giving out stars lately since I've put out some good tips and nobody showed me the love.  But Chris this tip will earn you many stars....cheers
