I have to submitt specifications for an stainless steel process vessel in  reference to the interior and exterior surface finish. My confusion is that surface finish #1 to #7 and also I have being reading about the Ra units, what is the difference and if there is a rule of thumb for process vessels surface finish codes, thanks

The surface finish requirements for a process vessel depends entirely on the application. Food handling versus pharmaceutical process versus industrial process fluids.
