RE: O lny srmat poelpe can raed tihs.

I've seen that one before.  It was going around the e-mail circuit several years ago.  I don't completely agree with their conclusions though.

One, two and three letter words aren't changed at all.  Four letter words only have the center two letters transposed.  The average sized word is about four letters in English.  The majority of the important pronouns, articles, prepositions, etc. that make up the gramatical fabric of the language, are small words.  So longer words are probably determined largely from context.

Without context, larger words are much more difficult to recognize without their proper spelling order.  And what about the case of several words that can be formed by different arrangements of the same interior letters?  Which one does your brain see then?

I don't remember where but I recall reading an article that debunked this whole thing. They printed several paragraphs in a similar format that were completely unintelligible.

i could read the post easily enough, but i had to work at FOETS's postscript (pretty much i had to remember what it was, and fit it into the gibberish)

RE: O lny srmat poelpe can raed tihs.

I also was able to read the post easily.  But does that mean if you were on "Wheel of Fortune," and they gave you the first and last letter of each word, you could solve the puzzle?

Perhaps the language forum needs a "FPT" link i.e. frequently posted topics.
