Acoustic shock to Syncronize data loggers

(OP)
I'm looking for a way to syncronize datasets of two acceleration-data-loggers sampling at 10kHz. Ideally, I would like to get them within nearly 1 sample of each other.

I like the idea of applying a very clear stimulus to both at exactly the same time, and looking back at the data sets to synchronize.

One idea for an appropriately instantaneous event is to have an explosion like a firecracker or automotive airbag near them. But there are (at least) two concerns:

I don't want to break the g-loggers

And I have no idea if this will create a clear signature that I might use for syncronization.

Does anyone know how fast these explosions happen, and a way to estimate a "safe" distance that will give me a clear signal?
