API 650 Flush Type Shell Connections

API 650 Flush Type Shell Connections

(OP)
Has anyone installed any other types of flush outlet nozzles besides the style detailed in section 3.7.8.  Paragraph 3.7.8.6 indicates that other options are allowed but I have not been able to find any other styles.  The "standard" outlet looks to be very detailed and expensive.

RE: API 650 Flush Type Shell Connections

I've seen two or three different kinds used, although I'm not sure what the section you mentions requires for them.  A bottom outlet with 90 degree ell out through the ringwall should work as well.

RE: API 650 Flush Type Shell Connections

It is deatiled and expensive, but it is technically defensible and you won't see any tanks breaking apart or leaking there.  I'd be careful looking for an inexpensve detail at the most highly stressed area of a tank.

RE: API 650 Flush Type Shell Connections

I would strongly recommend following the style shown in API-650.  This is a critical type of connection in a very sensitive region of the tank and you will want to be able to justify your design with acceptable practices if anything were to go wrong.
