thermal stresses analytical and FEM

(OP)
Hi all,
I am interested in thermal fatigue modelling. In order to apply various criteria one need to know strains/stresses range/amplitude. Does anybody know some works/papers that estimate thermal stresses due to cyclic thermal loads:
1. estimate the thermal stresses analytical (Green's functions)?
2. estimate the thermal stresses by FEM (algoritm) - coupled or un-coupld thermal/mechanical phenomena?
Thanks a lot!

RE: thermal stresses analytical and FEM

This is too vague a question. Depending on your problem you can just use hand calculations or use FE.

Hi Corus,
estimate thermal stresses from cyclic thermal loads (ex. sinusoidal form)as a boudary condition for a metalic simple component
thanks

RE: thermal stresses analytical and FEM

Hi,
ASME VIII appendix4 and 5 give very little guidelines about it. A better approach can be found in the EN13445 Norms, but I doubt they would be so easily recognized around the world. EN are more recent and are constructed around the "stress states" concept, not merely "admissible stresses".
This said, the physicity of the phenomenon is entirely up to you, as Corus says; for simple geometry the best you can do is in analytical way; if the geometry is too complex, then FE can save your soul...
