I Need help on the history of Intellution vs. CIMPLICITY???
(OP)
I need to understand Intellution (dates/http links/sims etc...). GE Fanuc links go to CIMPLICITY. Since i'm sort of clueless, I would like guidance on how they related. I've been doing Google searches to gain info on Intellution with no luck. Any Guru's out there who can help?
1.) Is it like Wonderware or DeltaV HMI graphics? or both?
2.) Is iFix the same as Intellution or a parent division?
3.) How is CIMPLICITY related to Intellution.
4.) Is it SCADA or HMI?

I'm currently undertaking a project that may migrate the Intellution graphics database into a new HMI package. I would like to undertake a deeper understanding of its history and evolution. It would help to get some links to training if available.

2. iFix was an Intellution product. GE Fanuc bought Intellution a few years ago, mainly so they could add other products produced by Intellution to their own product line. It just so happened that iFix and Cimplicity were products that competed against each other. GE Fanuc has kept both products in development, however.
3. They were not originally related. It's been a few years since the acquisition, so maybe they've started to intersect in some ways, but I haven't worked with either for some time, so I don't know.
4. It can be used in both applications.

After buying Intellution, their initial plan was to merge the two products, but iFix users had a collective conniption fit, so this plan was "re-evaluated", and both products are being maintained as separate entities, at least for now.
But GE being GE, they are fully capable of running both products into the ground simultaneously.
