Tolerance for 4mm a/f hex socket

Tolerance for 4mm a/f hex socket

Hi I am new to this site and was wondering if any body knew the tolerance for a 4mm a/f hex broached hole. The drawing just asks for 4.07 a/f but no tolerance, I know the information is available in the machinist/engineers hand book but I do not presently own a copy, any help on this question would be much appreciated.

RE: Tolerance for 4mm a/f hex socket

Hi,
I don't have a perfect answer for your question, however I could find some info that seemed to be somewhat close. In "ANSI B4.2-1984 prefered hole basis metric fits" it says that H8/f7 (close running) fit tolerances for a 4mm hole are 4.000-4.018. Hope that helps.

Hi Gpavlab, Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. I think you you misunderstood my question i am broaching 4mm hex holes and wanted to know the tolerance across the flats of the hex hole. I managed to get the information from a photo  copy of BSI handbook 44. Just so you can sleep easy the sizes were 4.02/4.095 Thanks again Jp
